The Shetland Explorer scarf was designed by Diane Duke in RiverKnits Northampton Shear Shetland lace yarn. Diane has been knitting since the age of four and over the years has knit in many different styles and yarn types, but loves natural fibres most of all. When visiting Shetland in 2021, she took the opportunity to learn more about Shetland lace and its traditions, meeting local artisans and examining pieces of work old and new. The stitch patterns chosen for the scarf explore some of the most popular ones used - hence the name Shetland Explorer!

It takes just two skeins of Northampton Shear Shetland Lace to make this very lightweight scarf. You will barely feel it on you, but you will feel its warmth!

Luminous Flux is the measure of the perceived level of light. With this high-vis hat, you will certainly be easily perceived! The bold graphic look is created with a textured colourwork technique that is half stranded knitting and half knit-purl patterning. Choose your style and knit either a slouchy hat or a beanie.

The hat has been designed to use our woollen spun Severn (Jacob wool) yarn, but any toothy non-superwash wool will work well. If choosing your own colours, try to select a light, medium, and dark shade to ensure that each one has enough contrast against the others.

The Stormy Rainbow Crochet Blanket was designed by Fay Dashper-Hughes after doing one of our rainbow mini skein dyeing workshops. We have put together a mini skein kit that closely mirrors the dyed skeins of Fay's original. It is made using the intarsia crochet method and just one simple stitch. Easy row repeats make it a great first intarsia project.

Prism is a colourwork yoke jumper with a geometric design, for fun colour-play with highly colourful marled or variegated yarns. It was remembering that wonderful childhood toy, the kaleidoscope, that set me off doodling prisms. The concentric bands of triangles remind me of the twisting motion that creates endless new views through the 'scope.

The yoke includes two colourways of our magically-marled Chimera for an indulgent use of colour, while keeping the knitting deceptively simple. The main colour is Severn 4 Ply, a woollen-spun Jacob wool yarn that is as lightweight as it is cosy and warm.

Mini Mania is a striped sock pattern by Fay Dashper-Hughes. It has been cleverly designed to incorporate the yarn tails as you go, so there are not lots of ends to weave in at the end. It is worked cuff down, with a heel flap and rounded toes. The pattern contains detailed photos and a link to a private YouTube tutorial.

Sizes given in the pattern are for a 60/64/68/72 stitch sock. The 68 and 72-st socks require 2 20g mini skeins of colour A, so be sure to include these when selecting your colour choice. For the smaller sizes, adding an additional mini skein of colour A will enable you to get two pairs of socks from 7 20g mini skeins.

Singing Stones are one of nature’s curiosities. These musical rocks are formed from molten lava that is subject to stresses and strains as it cools. The internal tension increases the rocks’ ability to transmit vibrations - music!
